As I start putting my own set together, I ask what keeps someone in the room when there’s a band they don’t know? I invite a couple of musician friends for their opinions and give a few of my own.

“Here We Go” (Jon Brion Cover From the Soundtrack to Punch Drunk Love)
Of all the producers I admire, Jon Brion has by far had the greatest influence on me as producer. This is one my favorite songs by him from the movie soundtrack to Punch Drunk Love – something you should definitely watch if you haven’t, as it pairs Brion’s amazing sonic backdrop to the images imagined by P. T. Anderson, another favorite of mine.
About the production:
I am performing everything you hear, playing real instruments when I can, and getting help from virtual instruments when needed, namely VSL Strings Pro for the string section and Spectrasonics Keyscape for the tack piano sound. The drum sounds are coming from Superior Drummer 3 using the Legacy of Rock expansion. They pair amazingly well with the Roland V-Drum kit with the TD-30 brain, which is only acting as a MIDI controller, but provides positional sensors for drum pads.
